This one is also a CdV.
Karen Langemo or Langems? or Langeme ?
The photographer is Burnham’s of Fairbault Minn. He was in business at Main and the Northwest Corner of Second Street from 1869- 1870, 1886 to 1888. Then again at an address that is just Fairbault in 1878,1884 and 1895. Because this card has rounded corners and she is wearing a dress with buttons and something lace I will guess this is from either 1878 or 1884.
Thanks for stopping by. Do come again.
I will go on to other photos now and let this album rest a bit and see if anyone contacts me since there are a few names out there.
Update from Iggy:
Karen 'Kari' Thygesdatter Haaby (nee Langemo) (1861 - 1951) was the daughter of Thyge Nilsen and Kari Thorbjørnsdatter Langemo.
Per and Karen Langamo were among the founding pioneers in Kenyon, Goodhue, Minnesota. Since this Karen (born 1835) is likely to be too old to be the one in the photo, I think this is Karen 'Kari' Thygesdatter Haaby (nee Langemo) (1861 - 1951) .
ReplyDeleteFar Side, you might enjoy the story of the Langamo family found here: http://www.leg.mn/archive/LegDB/Articles/13520LangemoLegacy.pdf Apparently their home is preserved as a museum.
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=Haaby&GSiman=1&GScid=82807&GRid=75314943& doesn't say much. The memorial for her mother, Karen, is here: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=LAN&GSpartial=1&GSbyrel=all&GSst=25&GScntry=4&GSsr=3561&GRid=30141733&
My goof - Karen 'Kari' Thygesdatter Haaby (nee Langemo) (1861 - 1951) was the daughter of Thyge Nilsen and Kari Thorbjørnsdatter Langemo. I think Peder (Per) and Thyke (it is spelled about 5 ways) were brothers that came over from Norway. In any event they both settled in Kenyon / Holden.
ReplyDeleteKaren Thygesdatter Langemo is the great grandmother of county music singer Lynn Anderson (source).
ReplyDeleteHer aunt Karen Langemo was, according to the document referenced above, a cousin to Andrew J. Volstead, member of congress who gave name to the prohibition amendment (Volstead act).
