This may be a wedding photograph. She is displaying her ring. Her gown seems to have dropped shoulders. The Cdv has rounded corners and the photo shows no feet…so I will guess this is from the early 1870’s.
Nettie/Nellie? Brown
J.E. Gauvin was the Photo Artist in Underhill, Vt.
Thanks for stopping by. Do come again.
The Brown family was one of the "founding" families of Vermont - (it was called the New Hampshire Grant back then) - Joseph Brown, his wife and two sons where carried off by Indians and their homestead burned. They spent years as servants to some British Army officers in Canada before returning home. There are 3 Nettie Browns in Find-A-Grave born circa 1845-ish, and 15(!) Nellie Browns (I think it says Nellie on the photo).
ReplyDeleteNellie E Brown nee Miner (Apr 1863 - 1960) married Edgar P Brown in 1881 would be my guess even if she would be younger than your photo estimate.
This Nellie Brown is Find A Grave Memorial# 46234016
Another possible one is Find A Grave Memorial# 47142431
Underhill, VT is adjacent to Jericho, VT, and you might enjoy knowing this... Jericho is famous throughout the world as the birthplace and lifelong home of Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley (1865–1931), an American farmer who photographed over five thousand snow crystals.
