O.W. Spencer and wife 1890 (or maybe A.W. Spencer)
The wife’s gown looks older than 1890…it looks early 1880’s to me.
It looks like the apron is made of two different fabrics and that pleated underskirt matches it. I also noticed that it looks like the gown was let out right at the bust line… which looks peculiar to me and then some trims were added right at the bust line too. The skirt also looks too short. Perhaps the gown was remade for her. This gown may be an example of the Natural Form era that took place 1877 to 1882.

Possibly this is Hannah M. Spencer (abt 1838 in New York) living in Boyer, Harrison, Iowa in 1880 with her husband A. W. Spencer (abt 1832 in New York). Hannah is widowed in 1900 and living with her son John B. in Butte, Silver Bow, Montana in 1900. John B. later lived (and died) in Spokane, Spokane, Washington.
ReplyDeleteA[llen] Spenser (Find A Grave Memorial# 55541439) seems to be Hannah's husband. He died in 1883. If your photo dating is better than the date on the photo - this might be "them."
She had a nice slim waist.
