Photo Number 946

This is a CdV from the antique shop in Detroit Lakes Minnesota.
CdV from norway very thin card DL Antiques
The cardstock is very thin.  I will guess that it is a CdV from the 1870’s.
CdV foreign very thin card back DL antiques
The Photographer was H. Krum of Throndhjem which I believe is a city in Norway.  Perhaps one of my readers can translate?

Thanks for stopping by.  Do come again:)

Update from That Norwegian Guy:

The photo is indeed from Norway. The language on the back however is Danish (which comes as no surprise).
Transcript (as far as I understand it): Modtag denne Erindring som rækkes dig af din Ven og ... ved Seminariet
Translation: Accept this memory that is given you by your Friend and ... by the College of Education(?)

Th. Andersen
født 4/8 48.
which means this Theodor was born August 4th 1848.

Update from the Archivist:
The last part of the inscription reads, "...accept this remembrance given you of your friend and contemporary [samtidige] at the seminary [or teacher's college]." (ved= by, or at)

  2. Visiting the Norwegian "digital photo" link that has been left on previous photos from that country, one finds a Hans Krum, "Fotografi" active between 1854 up until his death in 1882 in T(h)rondhjem. "[The] Krum archive from 1855 is deposited in the Royal Norwegian Society real scientific library, about 6,800 sheets of glass [negatives]."

There is (or was) a Throndhjem township in Otter Tail county.

I think the name on the back says Theodore Andersen. There is a Theodore Andersen living in Otter Tail, born about 1831 (which would seem to jibe with the photo dating and the apparent age of the subject).

    1. The missing word is "samtidige", which means "contemporary".

My impression is that "Seminariet" refers to an institution/process for education of teachers (or possibly priests).

Of course it's "Samtidige"! It's quite obvious now when I see it.
