Photo Number 419

Seven Girls Park R ANTiq

Seven women..all young..all wearing different dresses.  The black choker collar or necklace was popular in the 1880’s. Perhaps they were all friends.  There are hats and gloves and that is an umbrella in front of the gal in the white dress. There is one of those funny looking straw mats or animal hides on the floor.

This is quite a large photo..it measures 7 inches by 8 inches. I got it at the Antique Shop in Park Rapids..This is one of the first old photos that I thought..maybe I should just keep it and frame it. There is something about it that appeals to me, I cannot quite put my finger on what it is..perhaps it is the imperfect background behind so many women who are posing just so.

Thanks for stopping by, do come again:)

  1. Oh, I love this one Connie. I have a photo of my 6 college friends and me wearing hats at a tea party/lunch I had two years ago. Maybe one day my photo will make it on to somebody's forgotten photo blog!!!

  3. This photograph is remarkably well preserved. The look on their faces and how they have all posed shows, having a picture taken in those days was an occasion of great pride. Besides, these are young women we are looking at; quite natural to be conscious of appearances, even today. Worth a frame, definitely!

  4. It's funny that the photographer didn't direct them to all look the same way (watch the birdie). The two girls on the outside of the middle row look very similar in facial appearance - I wonder if they were sisters? Lovely photo :-) Jo

  6. I love this one, as well. There are so many stories that could probably be told by/about this one group of women...if we only knew, but we are left to imagine the possibilities behind the event, the relationships, and their lives! Definitely worth a frame!! ~Abra

  7. I just discovered your blog, and it's wonderful! I also love this picture. Don't you wish you knew what color their dresses were?

  8. I love this photo - what a neat one. I like the the two on the left are smiling (almost) the rest are so serious, as standard for old photos. I wonder what's in the book that they are looking at?

  9. Definitely frame it! It's a great photo. Every time I look at my framed images of Ora I feel happy and honored to be the guardian of her likenesses. In this photo I noticed that on the left they are holding what might be a photo album, and on the table on the right there is definitely a photo laying there. It was pretty common to pose for a photo while holding a photo album, the whole "reflective" moment, etc. This makes me wonder if this is a class photo at a school, or a group of cousins/relatives of some kind, viewing family photos.

  10. I can definitely understand the appeal of this picture - the variety of faces, expression, clothes, the posed but not-quite-formal look. It's beautiful.

I hope you got it framed!
