Photo Number Seven

This photo must be from around 1915..it is one of the few photos where someone is smiling.  She does look beautifully happy!  It was taken at Madisons Studio in Antigo, Wisc

Thanks for visiting!  Come back again:)

  1. Hi Connie, You are right about that smile. What a beautiful gown the baby has on. It reminds me very much of a photo of my grandparents with their first born, my aunt whom I was named for. She was born in 1919.

  2. She looks so young too. Maybe it's the lack of smiles in other old photos that makes everyone look old.

  3. Yes, she looks so very happy holding her child. Nice photo. This one looks natural. Isn't it odd that people rarely smiled in old photos? I know many of them had hard lives, but I bet they still had laughter aplenty. I hope so.

  4. I've heard people didn't smile in old photos because the exposure time was so long and it was more difficult to hold a smile than a straight expression. Also, photography sessions were very formal and rare events, so they wanted to be certain it turned out. I want to know how she kept that baby so still! :-) If you look closely at her teeth, they appear to jut out above her lip...I wonder if that could be from movement during the exposure time. ~Abra

  5. Her teeth appear to be retouched..it could have been from movement..or maybe bad teeth. Exposure times were fairly long.. some photographers used stands so that the people wouldn't move:)

  6. It also appears the baby's fingers on the left hand are blurred, so I imagine it was hard to keep still. Do you think there was some sort of support behind the baby? It seems like it would be hard to hold the baby in the air in that position. I am learning so much from your picture sharing. Thanks Farside! ~Abra

  7. I am thinking that there must have been some support to hold that baby up..either that or this Mom was in great shape:)
